About Out for Health
Out for Health was founded in 2009 by Planned Parenthood of the Southern Lakes. The LGBT Health and Wellness Program grew quickly, and under the new Planned Parenthood of Greater New York, we continue to provide outreach, education, support, and advocacy about the importance of LGBT inclusivity in care and education.
We know that the discrimination and stigma directed against the LGBT community is the principal source of health disparities among LGBT people. In addition to having the same basic health needs as the general population, LGBT people experience health disparities and barriers related to accessing care and many avoid or delay care or receive inappropriate or inferior care because of perceived or real stigma and discrimination by health care providers and institutions.
This must change.
Through weekly youth groups, school and community programming, professional development training, technical assistance, and advocacy, Out for Health works to remove barriers, increase access, and create a community in which health and wellness are an accessible norm for LGBT people.
